Fireplace repair
A fireplace that smokes, sticks or cracks is telling you something.
- Draft problems diagnosed
- Dampers repaired or replaced
- Firebox cracks addressed

Is the smoke coming into the room instead of going up? That's the most common fireplace repair call we get, and the cause can sit anywhere from the damper to the top of the chimney. A damper that won't open fully, a flue choked with creosote or a nest, or a firebox that's too big for the flue can all do it.
We test the draft, open and close the damper, check the firebox walls and look up the flue before deciding what to fix. If the problem is buildup, a chimney cleaning solves it. If the damper or firebox is damaged, we repair or replace it. If rain is getting in from above, a cap or chimney repair is the fix.
Smoke rolling into the room?
Let the fire burn out, open a window and send us a request before the next fire.
Fireplace repairs we handle
Most fireplace problems come down to a few parts. We check each one before recommending work.
Damper repair & replacement
Rusted, warped or stuck dampers freed, repaired or replaced, including top-sealing dampers at the crown.
Firebox repair
Cracked firebrick and refractory panels, and failing mortar joints, repaired so heat stays inside the firebox.
Draft problems
Smoke spillage traced to its cause: a dirty flue, a closed or broken damper, a blocked cap or a sizing issue.
Gas fireplace checks
Venting, flue and cap checked on gas units; we tell you if the appliance itself needs a gas technician.
Wood-burning or gas?
Wood-burning fireplaces
Creosote, damper wear and firebox cracks are the main issues. Heat cycles and moisture break down mortar and firebrick over time.
Gas fireplaces and inserts
Less buildup, but the vent and flue still need to stay clear, and debris or nests can block them.
Signs your fireplace needs repair
Book a visit if you notice any of these:
- Smoke coming into the roomThe fire isn't drafting properly.
- Damper handle won't moveRust or warping has seized it.
- Cracks in the firebox wallsGaps wider than a hairline let heat reach the structure behind.
- Cold drafts with no fireThe damper isn't sealing.
- Rust or water in the fireboxWater is coming down from above.
Safety first. If smoke is pouring into the room, let the fire burn down rather than throwing water on it, open windows and keep the damper open. Don't use the fireplace again until the cause is found. Gas appliance repairs beyond the venting should be done by a qualified gas technician.
