Chimney caps
A small part that keeps rain, birds and sparks where they belong.
- Measured to your flue
- Mesh screen against animals and sparks
- Rusted caps replaced

An uncapped chimney is an open pipe into your house. Rain falls straight down the flue, birds and rodents climb in, and leaves collect on the smoke shelf. A properly sized chimney cap closes that gap without blocking the draft.
We measure the flue or crown, recommend a cap that fits, and install it so it stays put through Santa Ana gusts. If the crown under it is cracked, we'll point it out, since a cap sitting on a failing crown won't stop every leak. See chimney repair for crown work, or chimney cleaning if birds have already moved in.
Birds nesting in the chimney?
Don't light a fire with a nest in the flue. Send a request and we'll set a time to clear it and cap it.
Chimney cap work we do
Every cap starts with a measurement, because a cap that's too small chokes the draft and one that's too loose blows off.
New cap installation
A cap with a mesh screen fitted to a chimney that doesn't have one.
Cap replacement
Rusted, bent or wind-damaged caps removed and replaced.
Multi-flue caps
One cap over a crown with several flues, sized to cover them all.
Nest and debris removal
Anything that got in before the cap went on is cleared out first.
Choosing a cap
Single-flue caps
Fit over one flue tile. A good fit for chimneys with a single flue sticking up above the crown.
Top-mount and multi-flue caps
Sit on the crown and cover several flues at once, or fit chimneys where the flue tile is flush with the crown.
Signs you need a new chimney cap
Look up at the chimney, or check a photo from the yard:
- There's no cap at allOpen flue tile visible at the top.
- Rust streaks on the chimneyAn old steel cap is breaking down.
- Bent or missing meshAnimals can get past it.
- Water in the firebox after rainRain is getting down the flue.
- Chirping or scratching soundsSomething is living inside.
Safety first. Don't try to fit a cap from a ladder or a steep roof. If animals are in the flue, don't light a fire to drive them out; nesting material burns and the animals may be trapped.
